Ken
was born in Michigan and now lives in West Marin. He studied fine
arts at The Cooper Union and has exhibited at the Dallas Museum of
Fine Arts, the Sun Gallery and Reese Palley Gallery in San Francisco,
among others.
"Primarily, I'm a colorist. Color to me is like ka flavor, a
spice, a tone. All art, I believe, is nutrition for the senses. Two
and three dimensional art is food for the eyes. We all crave it and
need it. I try to satisfy some of these cravings with my work.
I don't try to copy reality. The landscape or still life, from which
I'm working, is just the reference/stimulation for the process. Form
is important in my work, but color is far more important. The shape
of a cloud can indicate, among many things, wind conditions or the
time of day. The color of that same cloud can communicate a much wider
range of moods and conditions . . . Sometimes form almost vanishes
in my work. My painting may appear to be just a field of color. The
brush stroke then becomes the form."
A selection of Ken's original oil paintings
is always on exhibition. |
